Kodak Ektar (Medium format) Review

Kodak Ektar is probably my favourite film, even though I use it most often in 35 mm. It’s commonly described as a film made for landscapes and nature, mainly because of its strong saturation and very fine grain - but I would strongly disagree that it should be limited to that. With an ISO of 100, it offers extremely fine grain (one of the finest of any colour negative film) and impressive sharpness, making it ideal for detailed work. Despite its reputation, Ektar handles portraits surprisingly well: skin tones remain natural when exposed correctly, and the colour contrast gives images a clean, modern look. The larger negative adds depth and smoothness, pushing Ektar into a truly professional territory. If I could take only two rolls of film to a photoshoot, they would without hesitation be Kodak Ektar and Kodak Portra.
